Does anyone know if i5 has the “welcome mat” floor lights like i4? I am not seeing it on specs which really sucks.

I checked with my dealer using my VIN, the parts manager says there is nothing available for the i5 in terms of under-door projector or slides, those things that project down logos or messages like in the ICE 2 and 3 series. I guess they set up the "Light path" (those curve lines that go out and then run parallel to the side of the car), then called it a day. A bit of a bummer, kind of make me jealous of my wife's Audi and its "rings" projected on the ground. The light path is practical though, you don't have to open the door to have it, and it's actually more useful than a single logo under the open door - pity we can't have both!

just got car back from dealer. No carpet light pattern is available for my i5. I just get a solid light, they think. They origionally all said, yes it should be standard with lines, but apparently not. Or they couldn't figure it out. Couldn't even offer me different bulbs or a way to pay for them.

Perhaps it is included in a package.
ours doesn’t have the lights.the dealer wanted to keep the car indicating that perhaps a software update would get it done. Or if parts needed they would order the parts.
well, today we did hear back from them telling us it is included in the 50dollar light show you can order in the App Store. Not sure if it is true or not but I will give it a shot (and a refund if it doesn’t work).
Would be good to know from someone who has it if the car has some extras like the “light up grill” or M package.
perhaps those cars have it standard.

I have the puddle lights but also have the illuminated grill, the M package and the welcome lights. I don’t think I had the puddle lights initially, though, so it might have been the welcome light packag.

@RainerM, I think it comes standard in i5, though I bought my i5M60 with the Premium package, but the Premium Package description in the configurator does not mention this feature. I would suggest you check whether your car has a big plastic lined slit on both sides, below the front doors, like so:

If you look into this slit towards the front of the car, when you initially unlock the car, you should see a light at the end. I think its the lens over it that does the light carpet motif, you can see the dots on the lens:

Hello minhcatx,
We have the white light just no carpet. Lol.
The car has the premium package but as already mentioned there is no where a reference if and what package would include the carpet.
I just go and spend the 50 bucks so at least in the garage it fits our i4M50. lol. The M50 had it from the start but in the other hand it has pretty much all the extras.

Well we have the car now in our garage. I will go and check if there is a filter in front or not.
technically the filter could be moved in and out, software controlled. I saw pictures of the i5 showing lines like our I 4 M50. And then is the picture of the I5 in the App Store and that shows a different light pattern. Perhaps there are more filters and they can be changed depending on the setting?
anyway, I am going to buy it and then we now for sure.
I am glad I can take one for the I5 team. Lol
Stay tuned.

So here we go, no lines on the floor.
I tried today in the garage and it still is just a regular light. The settings for the Lightshow are in the Menu and seem to work. Nothing special, not sure if this is worth money. Anyway, back to the dealer and see what they have to say for themself.

buying the welcome light show will not get the “carpet” enabled.
Seems that it is a different part or something is missing.

As I said, I'm almost 100% sure now that there is a special lens that goes in front of the light, you can see the pattern in my picture, it either was not installed at the factory or fell off. Please insist on seeing the factory drawing and get your dealer to buy and re-install that lens. Please don't hesitate to escalate to BMW USA. This is so obviously a manufacturing defect.

So I got a response from the team at BMW. After some back and forth.

Thank you for contacting the BMW i Team. I appreciate your inquiry regarding your 2024 i5 eDrive40 Sedan.

The Welcome Light Carpet (static as part of the standard equipment) and the dynamic Welcome Light Carpet as part of the option "BMW Iconic Glow exterior package'' in your BMW i5 make it easier for you to get in and out of the vehicle. The dynamic Welcome Light Carpet projects an atmospheric, dynamic light graphic onto the ground in the entry area on both sides via light sources in the side sills.”

So, it seems that the light carpet is only included in the “BMW iconic Glow exterior package”.
not sure why the dealerships would t know about this and instead telling us to buy the light show.
Anyway, I also asked twice how to apply for a refund of the 50 dollar since it is not what’s advertised (the App Store for the light show does show the lines on the floor and nothing else, even so it just changes the headlight pattern). I do understand that the dealer thought that the light show must be the way to get it.
on the other hand, the dealer should also see on the parts catalog that there are two different parts (or a lens part number).
Anyway, let’s see what BMW answers about the refund.
At least we know better now the mystery that some have it and some don’t.
unless someone without the iconic glow package has the lines.

Just another update.
when the OTA update came this week there was also a notice that the welcome light show is disabled.
lol.
I guess is fair for BMW to take it back since they refunded the money. lol.
the dealership of course couldn’t be less interested.
so, our two BMW will go to a different dealer for service needs.

I’ve been looking into this, too, and unfortunately, it seems like the i5 doesn’t come with the “welcome mat” floor lights like the i4. I agree—it’s a bit of a bummer, especially since that feature adds a nice touch of luxury. I was hoping it would be standard across the lineup, but it looks like BMW decided to skip it for the i5. You might be able to add aftermarket BMW door lights, but it won’t be quite the same as the factory-installed lights.
